With playoffs on the horizon the tier IV Second place season holder "Stiles" Squirts toned up their game with a "Thrashing" of neighbor Hanover 5-1 on Saturday afternoon. Excellent netminding by Nicholas, "the spider" Stiles, held Hanover to just one loose goal insuring the win, while Keith Davis and Matt Pickman each registered a pair of goals in the contest. Davis opened the scoring with a nifty backhander high into the back corner of Hanover's net. Hanover tried to make a game of it scoring from a scrap out front. Still in the first, Kearsarge's Tristan Rowe went coast to coast to break the deadlock. Kearsarge never looked back when Pickman found paydirt on a rebound he pounded into the corner. Next week offers a return match this time in Andover as both teams play their final warm up before the state tournament in Berlin the weekend of March 7. |

The Stiles KYHA Squirts lassoed three points over the weekend stepping up to play perhaps their best hockey of the season. In Saturday’s game Kearsarge never let Twin Valley get both skates on the ice pressuring play to take a 4-1 lead at the end of the first period. Tristan Rowe delivered seven points with the hat trick and four assists. Matty Jarvis was on the end of those assists and netted four goals for a career day. Logan Marcus drove home Keith Davis’ pipe shot rebound and Kearsarge coasted to an 8-2 victory. David Windsor turned away 11 shots in net. On Sunday, the Thrashers took on rival Concord at Everett.
Picking up where they left off on Saturday Kearsarge dominated play in the first period and for most of the game. Still at the end of one it was 1-0 Concord. Rowe found pay dirt twice in the second on a power play set up by Taylor Methven and then later on a trademark break a way. Concord found the penalty box seven times in the game and down 3-2 with time running out and goalie Stiles pulled, Keith Davis buried a pass from Jarvis and Rowe to even the score at three a piece with seventeen seconds left. Kearsarge out shot Concord 24-11 reflecting the Thrashers game control

The KYHA squirts split the weekend with a close but just not quite enough come from behind loss to a strong Barre team 5-4. Down 5-2 early in the third period the Thrashers rallied behind Tristan Rowe and Keith Davis to pull within one and despite pulling Stiles from the net Kearsarge couldn’t find the equalizer. In league play on Sunday, the Squirts turned things around and after a slow 2-2 start in the first period the Thrashers dominated the remainder pulling away for a 7-2 win. Keith Davis often assisted by Rowe broke the red light with a season high five goals.
The Thrasher second line has showed improvement and the Lucas Windsor and Logan Marcus hooked up for a scoring reunion when Marcus fed Windsor a perfect pass onto his stick in front that Windsor neatly sunk into the corner pocket. Rowe also had a goal assisted by Davis. Spider Stiles shut out the panthers for the final two periods. Next weekend brings league play against NH East and non league with Twin Valley. Record to date : 6-4-1. |

This past weekend found the Thrasher Squirts lined up against an undefeated and #1 ranked Salem team. However, after grinding out significant ice time over the Dunlap weekend with four games in less than 24 hours including an opening 3-0 win over the eventual tournament champion Concord Capitals, the Kearsargians were rested and ready to play. Salem opened the scoring early after stealing a clearing pass and just sneaking the black frisbee between Spider Stiles pads. And that closed the scoring for Salem for the game. Stiles was especially sharp and fantastic play by the entire Defensive Corp held Salem to zero break a ways, and few clean shots.
On the other side of the pond Tristan Rowe offered multiple opportunities for his team mates with jet like rushes and dishes in front. The biscuit just couldn't find the basket though Salem was clearly spinning from so many rushes. Finally Taylor Methven got a break and was in route to the net when she was unmercifully tripped resulting in a perfect "superman" slide, and like the man of steel (ok the woman) Methven somehow was back on her feet and on the puck around a defenseman and rifling a shot past Salem's Lex Luther himself. "Sweat Dreams Taylor" !!! David Benjamin lead the third line with great effort and heart, while Matty Jarvis dug deep into the corners on his line.
No tie is a satisfy, but this is a chip off an otherwise untouched Salem team. The Thrashers know they have Concord to face this Saturday and plan to extra study their game plan during the week. Sunday provided some relief and time to drill a few fundamentals as a Squirt House Team from Tri- Town provided some good fun and a 7-0 win for the Blue Tornado's. Weekend report: Saturday Salem 1, KYHA 1. Sunday Tri-Town 0, KYHA 7 Record to date: GSL 4-1-1; overall 6-3-2.

Welcome to this years first "Squirt Shots" game report. Screams for this report have lead to this reporter relenting and accommodating the masses, but please no more paparazzi!! Now for the news:
Today's game featured the Kearsarge Thrashers vs NH East 3, a rival ranked higher in the current standings (but who's looking- right?). ONTO the PLAY:
Racing up the ice with the puck and only New York Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist in front of him, Marian Gaborik was not to be denied. Whoops, whoa Cupid! wait a minute, wrong game- but clearly Tristan Rowe had read today's paper prior to today's game matching Gaboric with a FIVE (5) goal game that looked more like a one on one contest than facing a full team on the ice. Rowe showed everyone he is a force to be reckoned with- Still without his teammates, this game could have been a different story. It was well into the first period before the Thrashers registered their first tally, and the game locked at 2-0 until late. Lets look at the supporting players. Suited and ready for Christmas, "St Nick" Stiles filled this chimney keeping all presents from escaping until late in the game. Stiles made saves of all sorts, top corner squeezes off the shoulder, glove saves at the other corner, a beautiful smother on a break away, and scrambles denied in front- no, no grinch was going to steal this show. On Defense, everyone stepped up denying the Eastern Elves from gaining any break a ways. Pickman was on fire time and again keeping the puck in the toy zone, Methven was in her solid form and gave highlight to a great rush just shooting wide from "Up on the roof top" circle. David Windsor scooted some nifty moves making the Easterners look like tin soldiers falling over on his way deep into their living room just missing on a backhand. Kelsey Dalton cleared the puck often and Davis as usual was all over the ice during his shifts.
Now into the middle of their season and with some line adjustments these squirt's are showing signs of a fine team. Today's line of Logan Marcus, Luke Windsor and Matty Jarvis worked some Christmas magic winning the puck in the corners and setting each other up the way Dasher, Comet and Blitzen work together with the big red guy. While they weren't able to fill the stocking they did everything but, and no doubt will be a group to keep a twinkling eye on. Not to be denied the rest of the reindeer team of David Benjamin, Jason Altman, and Caleb Cochran more than held their own. Altman's strength, Caleb' cunning and Benjamin's heart will yield success in the future. No doubt Rowe had the red nose today leading the team but Rose Abendroth streaked down the pond aside Tristan often open and in place for the rebound. Line mate Max Barrett had a fine day with a couple of shots just missing their mark- Rowe, Abendroth and Barrett ride the toboggan together and soon enough all three will be putting lights on the tree.
Final bell ringing for this sleigh ride: Kearsarge Thrashers 5 NHEast 1. And as it says at the end of the story: Happy Hockey to all and to all a Good Night!
